Above is a real-life image from the recent southern California wildfires, for which my dear brother and several close friends suffered greatly
If you know someone affected by the fires in California, some fire suppressants contain heavy metals 3,000X above safe water limits. In the fires, suppressants were dropped by as many as 25 aircraft during the fires on a daily basis. The details, with good and bad news:
- The government recently chose less toxic formulations, but risks remain. For details on the current risks you may view this key study from the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Southern California.
- As a cause of concern, the air pollution from the fires was an even bigger health concern, so if you protected yourself from the air pollution you were already doing better than most.
